5.0 out of 5 stars I passed the ITIL V3 Foundations exam!!, September 17, 2008

I had only heard a few buzzwords regarding ITIL before purchasing the certification kit from The Art of Service. I viewed the online content and read the book the week before my ITIL V3 Foundations exam. The online content and book complemented each other very nicely. The online content presented the materials very clearly and the study guide highlighted the relevant material that was on the exam. The use of diagrams and the examples highlighted in the study guide made it very easy to understand the ITIL concepts. I recommend this certification kit to anyone that wants a solid understanding of the ITIL foundations and wants to pass the exam on the first attempt.

5.0 out of 5 stars ITIL Foundation Prep - Must have for self study and those on a budget, September 15, 2008

The book and corresponding online course were all I needed to study and pass the ITIL Foundation test. However, this is not a simple test-prep book. The kit takes you through all the concepts with decent detail and passes on a good understanding of the principals, processes, and interconnectivities (lifecycle) of Service Management.

This is a must read if you are self studying and is by far the best "bang for the buck" for those of you with a limited training budget or are self-financing your professional growth!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Structured and Objective, September 15, 2008
By Doctor Hakim "DoctorHakim" (San Jose, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
The product includes a book and an online course.
During my 2 day research online and in book stores (borders/barnes&nobles), I found this to be one of the best available courses in the market. I skimmed through some other books but this book was more focussed and objective for the V3 ITIL foundation exam

The book is written in simple language with relevant examples. The pace of the book simplifies the learning curve as it slowly inmerses the reader into the ITIL fundamentals and then pulls into deeper waters detailing the finer aspects. The authors explain the concepts very clearly and concisely. The book content is sufficient for passing the foundation exam.

The reader has to register for the online course separately. The registration is quick. I got the account started within a few hours. In fact there were multiple response. (To be frank, I was bit skeptical initially on when my account will be activated). It turned out to be a pleasant experience. The course perfectly compliments the book (plus more). I used the book at home and the online course at work.

I am planning to take my foundation exams later this week. This book certainly has helped me making the initial big strides for the V3 foundation exam.

I hope this review helps the undecided candidate trying to certify in ITIL to buy this book online especially on Amazon. This book was not easily available in any of the stores. The shipping was quick and I got it by 2-day service.

The book/online course is worth the investment.

The Art of Service Leads the Way in New Enterprise Virtualization, SaaS and Cloud Computing Training

The first of five new courses were this week launched by The Art of Service to complement its existing range of IT Service Management and ITIL courses. The first "2 Day Course: Cloud Computing, Managing Services that are in the Cloud - The ITIL Service Management Way" was delivered to a group of Senior IT Managers who rated the course Very Good to Excellent:

  •   "There is a lot more to Cloud Computing than initial thoughts. It is another "delivery mechanism". Success comes from structured processes and management."

  •  "I found this an extremely valuable experience to assist my understanding of Cloud Computing concepts; issues and the processes needed to develop successful migration strategies or implement Cloud Computing solutions"

  •  "The 3 most useful things I have learnt on this course were Service Level Management, Positioning of cloud Computing and seeing opportunities for use in our organsation."

  •  "Overall, very good learnable, easy to understand and relevant"

In addition to the sold out Brisbane course, the course runs in Melbourne (AUS): 23-24 October, Brisbane (AUS): 27-28 October, Sydney (AUS): 30-31 October, Los Angeles (USA): 11-12 November.

Ivanka Menken, Executive Director said: "Lately there is a lot of media exposure on Cloud computing, 'on demand computing' and virtualization. Most of the presentations and articles focus on the technical side of it - presenting the newest generation of VMware or the way virtualization of servers can be organised. But, what about the other side of the story?

How do you manage the continuity of the services that make use of could computing... how do you ensure consistency in service levels? How do you choose the best provider of your 'on demand computing' services? And that doesn't even touch on Information security - an important side of any IT services, especially when it uses the cloud for part of the delivery.

We felt it was an important step to enable us to become a more rounded organisation in terms of It Service Management Solutions. Expectations on all of us are increasing and this course gives our clients that additional knowledge to show we are a progressive organisation."

The Art of Service is widening the range of courses it offerss to ensure that courses are available when their clients need them. Industry changes such as new regulations, practices and technological advances are incorporated into much of the existing courses. However, the new courses introduced provide a new range of skills that applies to company directors through to operatives.

"With the right training, staff will feel more confident, satisfied, self-reliant and actively communicate more effectively. Introducing and implementing Virtualization and Cloud Computing training programmes will have a ripple effect throughout a company, thus improving morale, retention, efficiency and productivity", said Ivanka Menken, Executive Director, "Practical Education is at the heart of The Art of Service"

What’s in the Toolkits?

I received an email today from Steve, who read my last Blog, asking exactly “What is in your Toolkits?”….

So today – clarification time…

The purpose of the Toolkits is 2 fold :

1 – Educate (we are an ITSM Education Company afterall) on the process or topic that the toolkit focuses on – this is mostly done through powerpoint slides, adapted from our accredited classroom programs, as well as supporting documents

2 – Starting points/Templates – within each toolkit, you will find numerous document and/or spreadsheet templates, which you can modify/personalise to suit your organizational needs.

Why do the hard yards of reinventing wheels when you can take save time and “labour” $$ by using adaptable templates, or even as stimulus to your own documents?

I was also asked about the cost.  My response – when you calculate the time and money used to create your own…. Time and Money well saved by buying the toolkits.

I hope this has clarified for many the questions that Steve asked.

Thanks Steve

Till next time Cheers from the ITIL Australia Team at The Art of Service

Michael
