Security: An Essential ECM Feature |
Information is regarded as a very important asset of every enterprise. This is especially so in businesses. Even government agencies see information as something that is crucial if they want to be efficient in their operations. To a business enterprise, reaching goals can be achieved if information is managed well and efficiently. That is why businesses would make it a point to invest in ECM.
The bigger a company is the harder it would be to manage content. What makes it really so are the unstructured information that every company must manage to make them usable so such content will be able to aid them in making the company more productive and more efficient.
ECM is defined to include all the tools and technologies used in capturing, storing, preserving and delivering content. But in all stages of ECM security is always imperative. It is even more so important in the management and delivery stages. Within the company, certain information is fitted for certain people only so they should only be the ones to have access to them. Other content may also be available for everybody as almost everybody would have a need for such information.
As enterprises gains exposure to the internet through portals, more security is even needed. Since everybody can access the internet, security should be imposed so privacy and confidentiality can be kept within the organization. Clients and business partners are also given access to certain content that are relevant to them. Management is imperative in classifying which information should be made public and which should not. And in order to enforce such classification and to ensure nobody gets more information than what he should get, ECM security features should be solid.
