Configuration Management Defined The Crucial Task of Managing Complex Systems

Change has always been a part of every peoples lives. It could be a planned change wherein the person concerned expects the change to take effect. Say for example buying a new house to live separately from parents, or taking some time off by traveling abroad or some place else just to relax and unwind. Change can also be unplanned or unexpected such as an accidental death of a loved one, or a career promotion and demotion perhaps. Change is everywhere and no matter how trivial or drastic it is, it depends upon us how to control and deal with it.

In telecommunications and information technology, change is something that is a very big deal, as far as software and hardware systems are concerned.  It takes a series of planning, error checking and testing to be able to come up with a system that is almost perfect. This simply means that since change is inevitable, the next best thing is to find ways on how to control or if possible adapt changes that may take effect all throughout the operational life of a system. Thus, the management of all these techniques, features, assurances and initiatives to control changes to take effect in a certain system is referred to as configuration control or configuration management.

Because of the importance of configuration management is evident in software and hardware development, a lot of configuration management tools were developed and are currently being used to simplify the crucial task of managing and controlling such complex projects. There are a wide variety of tools available that you wouldnt even find it hard to look for one that suits your business needs.
