How to Get MCITP: Business Intelligence Developer Certified

Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) is a certification program that validates your skills in working with IT infrastructures including the planning phases, deployment, support, maintenance, and optimization.  This program confirms of specific job-role skills outside of the core technology.  It enables individuals to distinguish themselves within specific job roles and technology specialization.  MCITP certification is your key towards career advancement.

Some of the MCITP certifications are Business Intelligence Developer, Consumer Support Technician, Database Developer, Database Administrator, Enterprise Messaging Administrator, Enterprise Project Management, Enterprise Support technician, Enterprise Administrator, and Server Administrator.

Three of these certifications programs runs or uses the SQL Server 2005.  These MCITP certifications are the Business Intelligence Developer, Database Administrator and Database Developer.  The following are the exam requirements to gain MCITP certificates on these programs of specialization.

1. MCITP Business Intelligence Developer
– Prerequisite: MCTS: SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence
– PRO: Designing a Business Intelligence Infrastructure by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005
2. MCITP Database Administrator
– Prerequisite:  MCTS:  Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – Implementation and Maintenance
–      PRO: Designing a Database Server Infrastructure by Using Microsoft SQL Server
–      PRO: Optimizing and Maintaining a Database Administration Solution by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005
3.  MCITP Database Developer
– Prerequisite : MCTS: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 – Implementation and Maintenance
– PRO: Designing Database Solutions by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005
– PRO: Designing and Optimizing Data Access by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005

One of the Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) specialization program is the Business Intelligence Developer. The MCITP Business Intelligence Developer is a certification program that demonstrates an individual’s capability to design analysis solutions, data transformations, and reports.

It is the role of business intelligence developers to design and implement multi-dimensional database both logical and physical models, data marts, data warehousing, data transforms, data analytics, and reporting solutions.  The program covers programming and customizing servers that use Multidimensional Expressions (MDX), customer transforms, and custom reporting solutions.  Medium sized or large size organization typically employs business intelligence developers.

To take the MCITP Business Intelligence Developer certification is to take two exams.  Candidate should take one exam on Microsoft Certified technology Specialist (MCTS) which is a prerequisite exam and one Professional Series exam.

The MCITP Business Intelligence Developer measures your ability to design and create business intelligence applications by using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 business intelligence tools. Thus, in the MCTS exam it will cover questions on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence – Implementation and Maintenance.  The Professional series exam covers questions on Designing a Business Intelligence Infrastructure by Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005.  Exam coverage for the professional exam includes Planning BI Solutions, Designing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) Solutions, Designing SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) Solutions, Designing SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) Solutions, Deploying and Optimizing SSAS Solutions, and Designing Data Mining Solutions.

It is recommended that you have hands-on experience with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 if you intend to take the MCITP Business Intelligence Developer exam.  Currently, there is no Microsoft elearning for this program, however classroom training are provided by Microsoft.
