Some Top Tips to Ensure ITIL Success
By George C Marks
ITIL is an important change to an organizations Information technology process.
If it is not implemented in the correct way then it can quickly become a failure and the manager responsible for its implementation may be blamed for that failure.
To ensure that it is not a failure, the manager must ensure that he has commitment from the most senior management of the organization.
All managers who have successfully implemented the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) have had to seek out this commitment from their company management.
Many companies are unwilling to spend money on implementing ITIL and fail to realize that they must dedicate resources and appoint the correct type of person to the very important positions necessary for the implementation of the ITIL process.
The appointed staff must be empowered by the provision of the necessary tools and training services, and given adequate time to devote to the implementation process.
Quite often because ITIL is not a requirement sponsored by the general management of the business, but is seen more as an IT department luxury, the necessary level of commitment for a successful implementation is lacking.
It must be remembered that the ITIL process is merely a methodology for improving the IT aspects of the business.
Sometimes in smaller companies, the person appointed to implement the Information Technology Infrastructure Library has many other tasks and projects and so is unable to focus and devote sufficient time to the implementation process.
It is absolutely essential for a successful ITIL implementation that the person responsible is capable of dedicating enough time and effort to ensure a successful conclusion.
