Suitability qualified means that the auditor is in fact employed by a recognized, qualified auditor under local country standards (eg.

JAS-ANZ) AND the person is individually qualified as an authorized ISO auditor AND has passed the BS15000 certification exam that is sat at the end of an external auditors course in BS15000. NOTE: it is NOT the IT department that earns certification – it is the organizational unit. DID YOU KNOW? At the time of writing (mid-2004) the British Standard has recently been adopted by Australia, under AS8018.

Various interested bodies have begun the work to have the standard adopted as an INTERNATIONAL STANDARD.

Whether this work can be “fast-tracked” (ie completed in a year or less) or will take the usual 4 to 5 years is unclear at this time. NO NEW FUNDAMENTALS: The concepts of BS15000 are not to be considered new age.

The standard builds on solid fundamentals and is directly linked to the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework for IT Service Management. The following diagram shows how the standard links to ITIL.

However, while ITIL offers the ability for individuals to earn qualifications there is no organizational qualification available under ITIL. Note: In the box on the right, the bold, underline text represents a published ITIL text book.

The red text represents processes covered in the Service Delivery text book and the blue text represents processes described in the Service Support text.

This diagram makes it simple to see how so much of BS15000/AS8018 was derived from the ITIL. CERTIFICATIONS (People Power): There are currently two recognized levels of proficiency in the BS15000 standard for individuals. Consultant and Internal Auditor Has attended a 3 day or certified equivalent course in BS15000/AS8018 and passed the two part examination.

The examination is a combination of multiple choice and assignment essay style. Participants are those that are assisting organizations to prepare for or retain their BS15000 official certification.

Pre-requisite to attend the course is a pass in the ITIL Foundation examination or equivalent knowledge. External Auditor Has attended a 2 day or certified equivalent course in BS15000/AS8018 and passed the examination.

The examination is a multiple choice exam.
