With the impending ITIL v3 Intermediate programs about to be launched, some of our trainers have had access to the pilot exams. So today – I thought I would enlighten you on the format of these exams:

Firstly – it is still a multiple choice exam… but only 8 questions…

You have 90 min to complete.   Yes, 90min… if you do the math… that’s about 11min per question… sounds easy, right???

Wrong… the new exams are scenario based questions with a ranked answer format (ie 1 answer worth 5 marks, one worth 3, one 1 and a distracter/very wrong answer).

So in essence, you complete a 3 or 4 day program and pass or fail comes down to 8 questions.  (though really, these 8 questions will really test your overall knowledge of each module.)

And to really confuse you… in order to pass, you need to get a minimum of 4 correct answers and a combined score of 26/40 (65%) or if you get 75% or better, you will pass with a “Distinction”.

Clear???

If you want to read the full review from our trainers.. goto

From where I see it – I believe this approach to be a good thing.  Afterall, ITIL Framework is just that – a framework – not a prescriptive right/wrong dogma…..

Till next time Cheers from the ITIL Australia Team at The Art of Service
