The ISQTB is an organization that is responsible for providing the international qualification scheme for software testers. It conducts the ISTQB Certified Tester an education program offered to 38 countries and is a multiple choice type exam. The ISTQB exam provides 3 levels of certification namely, Foundation, Advanced and Expert.
The following are the pre-requisites for the ISTQB Certification Exam:
1. Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) – There is no pre-requisite to sit for this exam. It is a 1- hour exam with 40-question multiple-choice examination. This exam is design to evaluate the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the entire Foundation syllabus. Takers of this exam are required to score 26 or more correct answers in order to pass.
2. Certified Tester Advanced Level (CTAL) – In order to qualify and sit for this exam, the candidate should have at least 5 years experience in software testing. They must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in computer science or a related field which may be substituted for up to two years of work experience. The candidate must be a holder of the CTFL certificate.
The Advanced Level has three components, namely, Technical Tester, Functional Tester, and Test Manager. The candidate may opt to acquire certification in one or all three of these components. An additional certificate Certified Tester Advanced Level (Full) if you have completed the three components. You are given one and half-hour to finish the exam.
3. Certified Tester Expert Level (CTEL – Candidates should have eight or more years of experience in software testing. It is designed for leaders or experts in the field of software testing.
