ITIL diagrams – Jigsaw Following consultation with Service Management organisations and User groups, OGC designed the Jigsaw diagram which illustrates that the new library series comprises five principal elements, each of which interfaces and overlaps with each of the other four.
The elements are: the business perspective managing applications delivery of IT services support of IT services manage the infrastructure. ITIL diagrams – BS15000 The second diagram the reader should be aware of is the British Standards Institute diagram.
The BSI have published ‘Specification for IT Service Management’ (BS15000) and ‘A Code of Practice for IT Service Management’ (PD0005), both of which are based on the principles of ITIL.
The diagram is not a process model but simply a pictorial description. It is obvious, when you see it, that the new IT Infrastructure Library models can be seen as an expansion of the BSI model, taking IT Service Management forward.
The process elements are nearly the same, the principle of Change and Configuration Management as a linchpin is the same, the difference relates to the level of detail.
Both BSI and OGC promote similar, if not identical, principles of best practice for IT Service Management. Get yourself a copy of the books and have a look at these!
