What is ECDL?

As you hear the words driving license, the very first thing you think about is a certification to drive a vehicle.  In Europe, to be licensed in the operations of computer is to acquire the European Computer Driving License (ECDL).  ECDL is also called as the International Computer Driving License (ICDL).

ECDL is an internationally recognized Information and Communication Technology and digital literacy certification program.  The certification program is provided by the ECDL foundation, which is a non-profit organization.  The ECDL certification receives recognition and support from governments, computer societies, international organizations and commercial corporations.

The ECDL certification is offered  in 148 countries and in 38 languages.  The programme is offered to those who can demonstrate their full competence through the use of personal comouter and common knowledge in computer applications.  The candidate should know the essential concepts of the Information Technology. It is an advantage if propspective candidates have earlier knwoldege in the used of  computers and some of the common software applications.

The ECDL certification exam  is given by a local Test Centre for a fee.  The exam consist of seven separate modules that covers computer theory and practice. To receive an ECDL certification is to pass all the seven modules.  The seven modules are concepts of information technology,using the computer & managing files, word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, and information & communication.
