You may have seen that there is finally a Manager’s V3 Bridging Program.  We, at the Art of Service think it is about time.  From our perspective, or really mine (I am taking the liberty to impose my opinion on my team), it’s a chicken or egg thing…. Let’s unpack this…

If we look at the “hierarchy” within our IT ITIL® organization, the champions, or leaders are our ITIL® Managers.  These are the people whose knowledge is the most comprehensive in relation to ITIL®, and thus drive the ITIL® Framework.  Now, I am not saying that the Practitioners are any less important, so please don’t hurl binary abuse my way J.  Which does lead me then to our Practitioners – our hands on experts.  These people are the drivers from within, for they actualize the vision.  From there we have the Foundation level people – the awareness to ensure we are all on the same page people.  Thus – our hierarchy!

So – V3 was released at Foundation level – and by now you might even have staff in your IT organization who have been ITIL® V3 Foundation certified.  For all intents and purposes, they may as well be speaking a different language to the Managers and Practitioners.  (But if the truth be known – they are on the front foot so to speak….) – one advantage to them being certified first is that when the service lifecycle approach is adopted, there are already the “ground soldiers” who are ready and waiting with both eagerness and anticipation…..

Anyway – wouldn’t it make sense to have or Managers V3 certified first? – This way they can look at their organization at the strategic level –and start to investigate how to implement the Service Lifecycle approach!

Fortunately – this is now possible… all we need to do is complete a 5 day Manager’s Bridging program, and we will be V3 certified – Manager level!  When you consider that the number of processes increased to 19 or so, and functions grew to 4, 5 days isn’t too much… especially when you also consider that the foundation program is 3 days…(which btw is not a pre-requisite for Managers to do).

And… you only have to do a 20 question multiple choice exam – how easy… and you have 90 minutes to do it… alright, which then implies that it is not so easy… but still…

As for we trainers – we are eagerly anticipating the release of the Exams, so we can update our qualifications…. How about you?

Oh yeah – another reason for upgrading – the ITIL® Diploma… but I will leave that for another blog…

AS for the Practitioners… soon… J

Till next time Cheers from the ITIL® Australia Team at The Art of Service!
