There is no single clear definition of Governance, but let’s think of it as “control”.
ITIL Governance then becomes a question of well defined processes that allow IT Managers to improve the level of control that they have in their IT environments. ITIL Governance processes include Incident Management (aimed at restoring normal service in as short a time as possible), Financial Management for IT Services (to manage effective accounting, budgeting and charging) and eight other process areas. When you consider that ITIL has been developed for many years and is still experiencing increasing adoption rates then as a Governance framework it has a major part to play.
