EXIN has released its diamond model to explain where all ITIL® education courses fit in.

Currently the ITIL® education certification scheme is as follows:

  1. The ITIL® Foundation program focuses on terminology, the processes and functions and the relationships betweenthe processes and functions.
  2. The ITIL® Practitioner program focuses on the practical application of this knowledge.
  3. The ITIL® Manager program is more suited for people who are tasked with the overall implementation of ITIL® Service Management.

ITIL® Foundation (the green pin) is followed by ITIL® Cluster Practitioner (the blue pin). So far nothing new… but the ITIL® Foundation certificate also becomes the prerequisite for the ITIL® Advanced program and then there is the new certificate: ITIL® Expert.
EXIN has been talking about this for a long time now but with the increased maturity of the IT organisation and the ITIL® V3 books soon to be released EXIN must have realised that it can
accomplish their dream of an ITIL® expert program.

A clear vision on ITIL® education and a clear distinction between the levels and learning outcomes… I like it!
