The primary reason why Business having large numbers of computers that collate information and data engage in Networking is that it is cheaper, more effective and efficient than the old system.
While the secondary reason lies with the fact that when merging Businesses began experiencing difficulties from having and employing many different Network technologies, which at times are incompatible with each other.
This came from the emerging technologies that kept on improving the Network technologies until the old Networks got replaced and outdated by the new ones.
In this scenario, arose the Network Performance Management, which is the act of optimizing how Networks must and are expected to function.
In this, the Networks are measured by their delivery of the lowest latency, and their highest capacity.
This is can be seen as a measurement of the Networks’ maximum reliability under limited bandwidth and intermittent, if not usual, failures, all of whom are known to affect the Network’s performance negatively.
In the measurement of the Network, IT teams are constantly modeling, planning, and optimizing the networks.
This is to make sure that they carry the traffic of the information and data with the speed, reliability, and capacity that is necessary for their satisfactory use and application.
Also measured are the cost constraints of the Network to the Business.
There are of course many different Network usage and applications that need different blends of latency, capacity and reliability.
For example, the usage of Instant Messaging does not require a large bandwidth, but must be fast to make it distinctly reliable, while an e-mail must have a high capacity, although it does not need to be fast like a Instant Messaging.
