Do you want to get a certification that will prove your full competence when it comes to the use of a personal computer and its common software applications? If yes, then take the European Computer Driving License or ECDL. Also known as International Computer Driving License (ISDL), ECDL is a computer literacy certification program provided by a non-profit organization called ECDL Foundation. It was developed in 2001 through a Task Force of the Council of Professional Informatics Societies and was recommended to be a Europe-wide certification scheme by the European Commission High Level Group or ESDIS.

As a globally recognized Information and Computer Technology (ICT) digital literacy certification, ECDL / ISDL is currently available in 148 countries (in 38 different languages) and is supported by computer societies, international organizations, governments and commercial corporations. This means that passing this sought-after certification program will also mean increasing your chances of getting hired to the company of your choice. Since ECDL tests one’s knowledge of computers, prospective candidates of this certification program are expected to have used and constantly exposed to the computer, its functions and other common applications. ECDL claims to have issued more than 7 million ECDL certificates as of the year 2007.

The ECDL / ISDL certification program is divided into 7 separate modules, namely: (a) Concepts of Information Technology, (b) Using the Computer and Managing Files, (c) Word Processing, (d) Spreadsheets, (e) Databases, (f) Presentation and (g) Information and Communication. To gain an ECDL / ISDL certificate, it is a must to successfully pass a test in all 7 modules. Before registration, it is therefore recommended to get enough preparation in conquering this much-coveted ECDL certification.
