The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 is a high end solution for effectively managing the database and information systems of companies.  Its functional features include reliable customization and scalability performance so that developers can align the database according to their company’s requirements.

There are two major editions of the SQL Server 2000.  The first one, which is generally ideal for large business class deployments, is the SQL Server 2000 Enterprise.  The other one, which is lighter and more affordable solution, is the SQL Server 2000 Standard edition.  This is best for small and medium sized companies having small relational databases.

The Enterprise and Standard edition of SQL Server 2000 are the only classes that can be installed on a fully deployed database.  Developers and database administrators therefore will have to use these editions in order to perform live development of databases.

The Standard edition of SQL Server 2000 will naturally have lesser degree of scalability compared to the Enterprise class.  But for most database needs, the SQL Server Standard can optimally perform.

The Standard edition boasts of a fully functional data transformation service which can be used to improve the business intelligence of small enterprises.  Data transformation involves the creation of meaningful data from unrelated information.  If data can be constructed effortlessly, companies can use it for actionable projects either for product development or to gain market dominance.

Microsoft’s introduction of the SQL Server 2000 Standard edition significantly helped small companies in leveraging their data and information systems.  It is an affordable solution that can produce profitable results.
