If you are in it to win it, you got to have a carefully planned strategy. These measures increase your chance of attaining success. If you are assigned to act as the captain of the basketball team, you may choose either to play an offensive or defensive game depending on other team’s strategy. If you would like to get a promotion, you should by now have worked on your weaknesses and enhanced your strengths to be prepared for the job. These are just a few of the many ways that you can take advantage of developing an effective strategy to obtain your goals. This can also be applied in the corporate world.

An organization that is IT-ready should develop an information system that is aligned with the business objectives and maintain a competitive advantage. This can be done through Strategic Information Systems Planning or SISP. Having an excellent SISP process is can only be achieved by taking into consideration these six dimensions as identified by Seegars, Grover and Teng:

(a) Comprehensiveness: the extent as to which an organization attempts to exhaust all necessary measures in integrating strategic decisions.
(b) Formalization: the existence of techniques, policies and written procedures that guide the planning stage.
(c) Focus: the balance between control orientations and creativity.
(d) Top-down flow: should be initiated by the management heads with the help of support staff.
(e) Broad participation: it must involve all functional areas and levels of the organization.
(f) High consistency: should be characterized by constant assessments of the overall strategy.

SISP is always associated with management orientation and control. Planning may have become successful but implementation should still be prioritized. Getting a balance between these two will definitely yield more than satisfactory results.
