In computing, the term “bandwidth” means the amount of data that can be transferred from one area to another in a given period of time. This is usually measured per second while the amount of data being transferred is expressed in bits. The better the bandwidth, the faster a certain technology can provide service for consumers like video streaming or downloading. Modern wireless technologies nowadays are measured through their bandwidth. WiMAX or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, for example, may be measured its speed through the bandwidth. WiMAX is a new concept in the telecommunications technology and many people want to know its edge against other wireless communication means. One of the factors being looked into this is the WiMAX bandwidth. So what is the WiMAX bandwidth?

There is a different range for licensed and unlicensed WiMAX. Licensed WiMAX can operate within 10GHz to 66GHz. Meanwhile, the unlicensed or license-exempt WiMAX can operate within the range 2GHz to 11GHz.

Moreover, there are theories that the maximum WiMAX bandwidth is 75 megabytes per second. Many experts say that this bandwidth can be achieved when using the modulation called 64QAM ¾. There is also the 64QAM modulation, which can be used under the best transmission condition of the technology. Not only that, WiMAX can have better bandwidth because it supports the utilization of modulation algorithms in wide range. This is done to enable the best bandwidth that can be achieved under any circumstances.

WiMAX technology is also said to reach as far as 31 miles making it a better wireless technology than Wi-Fi. With the best WiMAX bandwidth, better transmission of data can be secured under any conditions.
