The world's first comprehensive AI regulation, establishing risk-based rules for the placing on the market, putting into service and use of AI systems in the Union. Adopted 13 Jun 2024 (OJ L 1689/2024); entered into force 1 Aug 2024 with staged application: prohibited practices and AI literacy from 2 Feb 2025; GPAI obligations from 2 Aug 2025; most high-risk AI obligations from 2 Aug 2026; full application from 2 Aug 2027. It comprises 36 controls organised across 10 domains, and applies in the European Union.
